From China’s acclaimed
guzheng musician, Chang Jing, comes a concert of ethereal beauty and radiant serenity. Moving beyond traditional Chinese melodies, Chang and her musician friends will captivate you with the modern sounds of
guzheng music that will touch your soul.
Chang,
guzheng tutor to Thai royalty, dazzled the audience with her exquisite rendition of
A Moonlit Night on the Spring River at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Chang is not only master of traditional repertoire, but has also penned new music for the
guzheng and released numerous albums. Over the years, she has broadened the appeal of
guzheng music by adding Western musical instrumentation and infused it with diverse genres such as jazz, blues and new age, bringing a new surge of energy to traditional Chinese music.
For this concert, in addition to introducing vocals, she will also be merging the sounds of
piano and
violin with the musical tapestry created by the
guzheng and traditional Chinese drums. Discover fresh interpretations of classic pieces like
Dream of the Peony Pavilion and
The Butterfly Lovers as they are given a contemporary touch, as well as original new age compositions such as
Like Flowers and Space Time. Come and be enthralled by the poetic soundscapes of Chang Jing’s
guzheng.
